Here are answers to questions we hear most often from families considering financial planning.
What types of clients do you work with?
We work with both Kama’aina and mainland families. Many of our clients are local families in Central O‘ahu and the North Shore—who are approaching retirement or already retired. They are retired doctors, nurses, military, professors, tradespeople, teachers and small business owners.
How much do you charge for your services?
We charge less than many full-service advisors while providing a more thoughtful experience, clearer guidance, and portfolios designed to be both effective and easy to understand. Our fee structure is transparent and based on the assets we manage for you. We’ll review specific fees together during our initial conversation.
Do I need to come to your office for meetings?
We meet with many of our clients regularly by video or phone, including families on the Mainland, Honolulu, and the Neighbor Islands. Whether you prefer to meet at our Mililani office, online, or over the phone, we’ll make it easy and convenient for you.
What makes you different from other advisors?
We combine 20+ years of deep financial knowledge with straight talk and genuine care. We simplify complex concepts, contact you proactively, return calls promptly, and treat you like family. We’re also cost-conscious—delivering sophisticated planning at lower fees than typical advisors.
How often will we meet?
Most clients meet with us 2-4 times per year with the ability to connect with us, as needed if a financial decision or emergency comes up. The frequency depends on client needs and preferences. We’ll create a service plan that works for your situation.
Can you help with estate planning?
Yes. While we’re not attorneys, we work closely with your attorney to create estate strategies that reflect your wishes and help provide for your family. We will introduce you to trusted and local estate planning attorneys, who have helped our clients. We don’t just give you a number to call, we make ourselves available to join you and your attorney in your planning meetings ensuring your whole team is on the same page.
What if I need help with my parents’ finances too?
Many of our clients are helping aging parents navigate Medicare, Social Security, assisted living transitions and other financial decisions. We’re happy to include family members in planning conversations when appropriate. We help families plan for both the generation that came before and the ones that follow.
Do you work with clients on the Mainland?
Absolutely. About 20% of our clients live on the mainland. Some of our clients have retired to the mainland and moved from Hawaii, some are the friends, relatives and family members of our Client Ohana on island. We use video meetings, regular educational webinars and phone calls. Regardless of location, we are passionately committed to giving great advice and nailing the details.
